What to do when a QHHT client says they see nothing or cannot visualize?

“My client can’t see anything.”“They just see black.”“They’re not visual.”

If you guide hypnosis, QHHT, or any form of visualization…

👉 You’ve likely experienced this.

And if you’re newer to sessions, it can feel like:

👉 “Oh no… something is going wrong.”

But here’s the truth:

👉 Nothing is wrong.

First: Don’t Freak Out

The moment you start thinking:

👉 “They’re not where they’re supposed to be…”

They feel that.

Even if you don’t say it.

Clients in hypnosis are highly sensitive to:

  • your tone

  • your energy

  • your confidence

So the first step is simple:

👉 Stay calm

👉 Stay encouraging

👉 Stay present

Because…

👉 They are exactly where they need to be

Let Go of Expectations

One of the biggest mistakes:

👉 Expecting the session to look a certain way

Like:

  • a movie playing in their mind

  • vivid images

  • clear scenes

But not everyone experiences hypnosis visually.

Some people receive information through:

  • feeling

  • knowing

  • sensing

  • subtle impressions

👉 Not seeing ≠ not experiencing

“Black” Is Still Information

If a client says:

👉 “I just see black”

Don’t try to pull them out of it.

Instead:

👉 Go deeper into it

Ask:

  • What kind of black is it?

  • Is it dense, light, moving?

  • Are you standing, floating, sitting?

  • What do you feel in your body?

This shifts them from:

❌ “I’m not doing it right”

➡️ to

✅ “I’m exploring something”

Use Other Senses (This Is Key)

We’re very visually conditioned.

But hypnosis works through multiple channels.

Instead of asking:

❌ “What do you see?”

Try:

  • “What do you feel?”

  • “What do you sense?”

  • “What do you notice?”

  • “What are your first impressions?”

👉 This removes pressure

And opens the experience.

Stay Curious, Not Controlling

Your role is not to “force the session forward.”

Your role is to:

👉 Stay curious

👉 Ask questions

👉 Follow what’s coming up

Sometimes:

  • nothing happens for 20–30 minutes

  • then suddenly everything opens

👉 Like a dam breaking

Even “Nothing” Has a Purpose

Sometimes clients enter what feels like:

👉 a void

👉 empty space

👉 stillness

At first, it may seem like nothing is happening.

But often…

👉 That’s exactly what they need

A space where:

  • the mind slows down

  • the body relaxes

  • the connection begins

Trying to rush them out of it?

👉 Breaks the process

What If They Fall Asleep?

Another common fear:

👉 “They fell asleep… the session failed”

Not true.

Sometimes:

👉 the conscious mind needs to step aside

And work still happens at a deeper level.

Language Matters More Than You Think

Even the words you use can affect the session.

Instead of:❌ “What do you see?”

Use:

  • “What comes to mind?”

  • “What do you notice?”

  • “What do you feel?”

👉 This helps clients who aren’t visual

And reduces pressure.

You Can Prepare Them Before the Session

One of the most powerful things you can do:

👉 Help them experience it BEFORE the session

A simple exercise (like imagining holding a ball, feeling its texture, throwing it, watching it change) shows them:

👉 They can already do this

This:

  • builds confidence

  • removes fear

  • opens the channel

Final Truth: They Are Not “Doing It Wrong”

This is the most important takeaway:

👉 Clients are never “failing” the session

They are:

  • experiencing it in their own way

  • opening at their own pace

  • receiving what they’re ready for

Your job is not to fix it.

👉 It’s to guide it.

Final Thoughts

If your client “sees nothing”…

Pause.

Breathe.

And remember:

👉 The session is still working

Often in ways you can’t yet see.

✨ For Practitioners

Over time, I’ve developed:

  • ways to guide non-visual clients

  • interview techniques that prepare them properly

  • methods to open different
